Creative Communities NZ (Creative NZ)

Simple application

Partnership between Creative New Zealand and 74 local authorities throughout NZ. Aims to increase participation in the arts at a local level and increase the range and diversity of arts available to communities. Local decision-making via local assessment committees. All New Zealanders are eligible to apply. Contact your local district or city council (Tasman District Council for Motueka area) for application forms and closing dates. Each council runs its own rounds.

To achieve its vision, Creative New Zealand focuses on empowering communities to make decisions on arts and ngā toi Māori, thriving artists and practitioners with viable creative careers, thriving ngā toi Māori valued globally, and inspiring New Zealanders to embrace arts daily.

Use clear and concise language reflecting the cultural context of New Zealand, particularly acknowledging Māori and Pacific cultures.

Common mistakes to avoid

Applications may be rejected if the applicant, organization, or key team members are in breach of current funding agreements with Creative New Zealand.

What makes a strong application

Funding is more likely to be awarded to projects that align with Creative New Zealand’s long-term goals and support the specified artforms including craft, dance, literature, music, ngā toi Māori, Pacific arts, theatre, and visual arts.

Who we fund

The people and groups supported through contestable funding are artists and arts practitioners at all career stages who are New Zealand citizens or Permanent Residents, New Zealand-based arts organizations and groups, and international arts organizations if the funding directly benefits New Zealand arts and artists.
