What they care about
The Sport NZ Rural Travel Fund is designed to help subsidise travel for rural junior school and club teams aged between 5-18 years, removing the barrier of travel cost so they can compete in regular sporting competition.
Writing tips
The fund uses 'rural' to define eligible applicants and distinguishes between 'regular local sport competition' (eligible) versus 'regional or national events' and 'one-off events' (ineligible). Teams must be 'organised' and participate through 'club membership' or as 'school club teams' outside school time.
Common mistakes to avoid
Applications for travel to regional or national events or one-off events will be rejected. Teams competing only in inter-school or intra-school competitions during school time are ineligible.
What makes a strong application
Include supporting material such as quotes and price lists to validate your budget. Applicants should demonstrate they are a rural sports club or rural school team with participants aged 5-18 years participating in regular local sport competition.
